Industry Roundtables

In order to better serve our city and our people, we have begun a series of Industry Roundtables. The topic of each roundtable is one of the main industries of New York—fashion, finance, education, advertising, film, non-profit/philanthropy, etc.—and we invite anyone in our community working in that field to discuss the good and the bad about their industry, where the church hinders and how the church can help.

Our industry roundtables usually happen over a Sunday lunch on the Upper West Side, and we’ve had anywhere between six and thirty people. These questions prompt our discussions:

  • What drew you to your industry?
  • What do you love about your industry?
  • What do you hate about your industry?
  • What ethical dilemmas do you often run into?
  • What scriptures form your theology of your industry?
  • What are some of your doubts and uncertainties?
  • What do we, as your pastors/leaders, need to know about your industry?
  • How can the church help you live more missionally in your industry?
  • What about our programming clogs your ability to be missional in your industry?

Six Guiding Principles for a Missional Career

Our Upper West Side missional community ran a series on Integrating Faith in the Workplace in Spring 2009; these notes summarize the main points of their discussions.
