For the Sundays of May 6th and 13th, the Upper East Side service will not have it’s typical service at the Bohemian National Hall and will instead meet around the Upper East Side and Long Island City for community brunches. Give Us Names Special Screening – April 2nd

Give Us Names is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping the nearly 5 million displaced Colombians find home again. Due to foreign government efforts to aid in the eradication of coca crops (that produce cocaine) through aerial fumigation, many innocent farmers growing food crops for their livelihood have experienced the complete decimation of their farms. Desperate for work, thousands of Colombian families have been forced to leave the countryside to pursue work in cities.

On April 2nd, Give Us Names is hosting a special screening of their documentary film Leaving La Floresta at Space 38|39 at 38 W 39th St in NYC. For details on the event, visit the Leaving La Floresta Facebook Page and watch the trailer for the film online now.

Lent–the forty days preceding Easter that are traditionally a period of self-examination–begins on February 22nd. We invite you to join us as we enter this introspective period together with our Ash Wednesday service—a traditional liturgical evening of scripture, song, prayer, communion and the imposition of ashes.

There will be three back-to-back gatherings at St. Paul’s in Chelsea (315 W 22nd Street between 8th and 9th Avenues):

8:15 (no childcare)

*Parents, you must RSVP for childcare by February 15th, and please let us know when you do so which gathering you plan to attend (5:45 or 7:00). Thank you!

Marriage Prep Workshop

Are you engaged and looking for an opportunity to go through pre-marital counseling with your husband or wife-to-be? Our first premarital counseling workshop of 2012 will take place February 10-11. Over the course of two days you’ll cover topics like communication, commitment, conflict resolution, keeping love alive, and building shared goals and values.

Citywide Worship – Jan 27

Our next Citywide Worship Night will be held on January 27th at 7 p.m. at St. George’s Church, 4 Rutherford Place (between 16th and 17th Streets) in Manhattan.

Please join us as we gather with all TGC Parishes and other churches around the city like Apostles Church, Grace Church, Forefront Church, Resurrection Church Brooklyn, and many more, for a special night of corporate prayer and worship.

Christmas Benefit Concert

At this time of year, NYC food pantries are in danger of closing due to a lack of funds.

In order to support their efforts, a group of performers – Christian singer-songwriters from NYU and Columbia gospel choirs, NYU and Cooper Union Christian a cappella groups – is organizing a benefit concert on Saturday, December 3rd at 5 p.m.

The concert will be at NYU Law’s Tishman Auditorium in Vanderbilt Hall (40 Washington Square South).

All proceeds benefit three food pantries – Father’s Heart in the East Village, Bowery Mission on the Lower East Side, and Love Kitchen in Washington Heights.

Friendly Hands Ministries Prayer Circle

In NYC the Federation of Protestant Welfare Agencies(FPWA), Bread for the World-NY, The Poverty Initiative, CDF-NYC, along with other faith-based non-profits, churches and local activist will encircle “Friendly Hands Ministries” in East Harlem; this organization was started by local pastors and provides direct services to the community as well as participates in advocacy efforts to bring justice to East Harlem. We will pray for Friendly Hands, East Harlem, NYC and the poor across the nation. We will also hear testimonies from Willie Baptist Scholar-in Residence at the Poverty Initiative, John Wessel-McCoy of The Poverty Initiative, Lisa Sharon Harper, Director of Mobilizing for Sojourners and Rev. Domingo Vasquez, Director of Friendly Hands Ministries.

7:14 Prayer for New York

As uncertainty prevails and economies, governments, and environments shift, we are powerful to change history through prayer. On December 1st at 7:14pm we will gather in Washington Square Park to pray for our city, our nation, and our world. We’ll be joined in prayer that day by sisters and brothers in dozens of global cities from London to Kuala Lumpur.

We believe that our God has invited us to change history through intercession. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is a promise that if we humble ourselves and seek His face, He will hear our prayer and heal our land.

For those in New York, please join us in Washington Square Park on December 1st.
