Christmas Tree Cutting

Our annual Christmas tree cutting trip to Maple Row Tree Farm in CT will be Saturday, December 4. We usually stop for amazing pizza on the way back at Frank Pepe’s.

Sunday, November 14: Two guest speakers in Manhattan

This coming Sunday, we are pleased to welcome Gabe Lyons to speak at our Eastside and Westside churches, and Mark Sayers to speak at Chelsea.

Gabe Lyons is founder of Q, which serves to educate Christians on their historic responsibility to renew culture, and author of The Next Christians: The Good News About the End of Christian America (Doubleday, 2010). His work represents a fresh perspective on Christianity’s role in culture and has been featured by CNN, Fox News, the New York Times and Newsweek. Gabe, his wife Rebekah, and their three children reside in Manhattan and are a part of Trinity Grace Eastside.

Mark Sayers is an author and speaker who specializes in interpreting popular culture from a Christian viewpoint. He is the Director of Über, a ministry that specializes in issues of youth and young adult discipleship. He is also leader of Red East in Melbourne, Australia, an innovative Christian community specifically reaching the young adult demographic. He is a highly sought-after speaker, consultant and thinker in the areas of Generation Y, pop culture and youth and young Adult discipleship and spirituality. Mark is the author of The Vertical Self: How Biblical Faith Can Help Us Discover Who We Are in An Age of Self Obsession. Mark lives in Melbourne, Australia with his wife Trudi and daughter Grace.

                                    <hr /><p>There is no better way to give thanks on Thanksgiving Day than to  head down to your local soup kitchen to volunteer.  If you live in New  York City, here are some resources for you.  The Bowery Mission is  probably the most popular, but there are several other organizations  that are well known in the city and that do good work.</p>
<p><strong>The Bowery Mission</strong> in New York City: <a href="http://www.bowery.org/Display.asp?Page=Thanksgiving">Thanksgiving Volunteer Information</a>.  <strong>[NOW FULL]</strong> You’ll need to fill out an online form to register before you can volunteer.</p>
<p><strong>City Meals On Wheels</strong>: Citymeals-on-Wheels’ Senior Centers <a href="http://www.citymeals.org/volunteer">need your help on Thanksgiving Day</a>. Help PREPARE, SERVE and DELIVER MEALS.</p>
<p><strong>New York Cares</strong>: New York Cares has hundreds of different ways that you can make a difference in our city this holiday season.  <a href="http://www.newyorkcares.org/volunteer/volunteer_opportunities/project_info_feed.php?AID=112690">Help prep and serve a Thanksgiving dinner for the clients of the Yorkville Common Pantry</a> on the Upper East Side.   Check out there blog <a href="http://blog.nycares.org/">here</a>.  (I’ve participated in several New York Cares events and they are top notch.)</p>
